“I can bring a dynamic perspective and fresh vision, thanks to my rich experience across different groups, which directly translates into innovation.”
Laia, a passionate chemist, holds a PhD in Chemistry from Universitat Rovira i Virgili. Before joining Dow in 2022, she dedicated her expertise to sustainability-focused projects across various areas such as electrochemistry, photochemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and nanotechnology. Today, Laia works as Senior Research Specialist through the Dow Research Assignment Program, describing it as dynamic and rewarding.
"Designed for PhD students and recent graduates interested into diverse experiences and continuous growth, the Dow Research Assignment Program (RAP) isn't just about professional development-it's a journey of personal discovery.
Take my story, for instance. Every few months I can embark on a new career adventure, shifting Dow sites, countries, businesses, and projects - a total of three rotations in just 21 months. Starting in Terneuzen (the Netherlands) and later moving to Seneffe (Belgium), I am now completing my third rotation at Dow in Tarragona, Spain.
In each rotation, I am in charge of a project, tackling real-world challenges with the resources available and time given. And it doesn't stop there-the program provides mentors and peers to guide and support every step of the way, ensuring a seamless transition into each new assignment.
I’ve worked on a variety of projects, each designed specifically for different R&D teams. From optimizing catalysts to driving product development and engaging in Technical Service and Development, I've delved into a wide array of endeavors alongside our dedicated business partners.”
“Here's the real secret sauce to my success: the unwavering support of every single colleague. From coaches and leaders to technicians and scientists, they have helped me to get where I am today.
Sure, it's not always easy. Stepping outside my comfort zone has become a natural part of my journey, but that's where the magic happens. Embracing discomfort fuels my learning journey and sharpens my adaptability skills. For me, the ultimate challenge lies in finding comfort in the uncomfortable and getting used to think outside the box.”
